BASEBALL

Anaheim Angels -- Placed pitcher Mike Holtz on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

Boston Red Sox -- Optioned pitcher Tomokazu Ohka to Triple-A Pawtucket of the International League.

Chicago Cubs -- Activated pitcher Rick Aguilera from the disabled list; outrighted pitcher Dan Serafini to Iowa of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).

Kansas City Royals -- Placed pitcher Dan Reichert on the 15-day disabled list with a non-displaced crack in his right elbow; recalled pitcher Tim Byrdak from Omaha of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Acquired pitcher Jason Boyd from the Arizona Diamondbacks to complete the February 26 trade of Tony Womack.

San Jose Giants (California League/Class A) -- Transferred the option of pitcher Julian Tavarez to Triple-A Fresno of the Pacific Coast League; activated pitcher Will Malerich from the disabled list.

International Basketball Association -- Announced the reloaction of its headquarters to St. Paul, Minnesota.

FOOTBALL

Carolina Panthers -- Released wide receiver Todd Kinchen.

Denver Broncos -- Waived offensive lineman Leo Goeas.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) -- Announced director of communications Norm Miller has resigned, effective September 26, in order to pursue other opportunities.

HOCKEY

Boston Bruins -- Signed free agent center Sean Pronger, who had been with the Los Angeles Kings, and free agent goaltender Kay Whitmore to two-year contracts; re-signed left wing Ken Belanger to a two-year contract; re-signed center Shawn Bates to a one-year contract.

Calgary Flames -- Signed forward Clarke Wilm and re-signed defenseman Eric Charron and forward Allan Egeland.

New York Rangers -- Signed center Mike Harder and defenseman John Namestnikov.

St. Louis Blues -- Signed forward Sylvain Blouin.

Toronto Maple Leafs -- Agreed to terms with goaltender Jason Muzzatti and left wing Darrin Shannon.

Vancouver Canucks -- Named Andy Moog goaltending consultant; signed free agent center Brian Bonin.

Virginia -- Announced that guard Kate Mooney will not play for the women's basketball team this season.
