BASEBALL

Florida Marlins -- Sent outfielder Cliff Floyd to Calgary of the Pacific Coast League (AAA) on a rehabilitation assignment; optioned pitcher Brent Billingsley to Calgary; recalled pitcher A.J. Burnett from Portland of the Eastern League (AA); assigned pitcher Jake Benz to Portland; assigned pitcher Matt Ward to Utica of the New York-Penn League (Rookie).

St. Louis Cardinals -- Agreed to terms with pitcher Nick Stocks, a second-round pick in the 1999 first-year players draft.

Kane County Cougars (Midwest League/A) -- Activated pitcher Ryan Harber from the disabled list.

BASKETBALL

Sacramento Kings -- Signed director of player personnel Jerry Reynolds to a multi-year contract.

FOOTBALL

Philadelphia Eagles -- Released cornerbacks Eric Edwards and DeShone Mallard, wide receivers Kevin McKenzie and Gerald Williams and punter Tony Martino.

HOCKEY

San Jose Sharks -- Re-signed goaltender John Nabokov; signed center Eric Landry, defenseman Jon Coleman, left wing Doug Friedman and center Rejean Stringer.

COLLEGE

Alabama -- Announced that linebackers Miguel Merritt, Chris Horne and Canary Knight have been suspended for the season opener Saturday against Vanderbilt as a result of a team violation last year.

San Francisco -- Named Calvin Byrd assistant men's basketball coach.
