Van Wieren PETE VAN WIEREN
Pete Van Wieren begins his 26th season as a play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Braves on TBS Superstation, tying him for seniority with Skip Caray. He has also extended his contract through a multiyear deal to continue calling games. In 2001 he will join the broadcasts on Turner South.

An eight-time winner of the Georgia Sportscaster of the Year Award from the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association, Van Wieren served as play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Hawks on TBS from 1991-94. He has also worked NBA games for TNT and TBS since 1986.

In 1985-86, he served as play-by-play announcer for TBS Sports' coverage of Big Ten Conference college football games. He has covered the Atlanta Flames of the National Hockey League, the Hawks, and Atlanta Falcons preseason football since joining the network in 1975. He has also served as a sports reporter for CNN.
