TURNER SPORTS* Thompson is an analyst for TBS' coverage of the NBA.* He has served as an analyst for Turner Sports' annual NBA Draft coverage since 1997. CAREER* Thompson was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on October 1, 1999.* He was the Head Coach for Georgetown University for 27 seasons (1972-1999), where he compiled a 597-239 record. * John was named national Coach of the Year three times and Big East coach of the year three times. * Thompson led his Hoya teams to an astounding 24 straight post-season appearances and three NCAA Final Fours. * He captured a bronze medal in Seoul as the Head Coach of the 1988 Olympic Men's Basketball team. * When his team won the national championship in 1984, he became the first black coach ever to win the title. * He played on two Boston Celtics World Championship teams, under Hall of Fame coach Red Auerbach. PERSONAL* Earned a bachelor's degree from Providence College, and also holds a master's degree from the University of the District of Columbia.* While attending Providence, Thompson led the Friars to the NIT Championship in 1963.
