TNT’s Coverage of PGA Championship Sets Record Third Round Rating and Record Final Round Household Delivery

Turner Network Television (TNT) posted strong sports performances by the 2001 PGA Championship coverage for the week ending August 19. The four-day PGA Championship event (Aug. 16-19) was highlighted by a TNT/TBS Superstation record 2.3 rating for third-round coverage on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. (ET). The final round on Sunday, Aug. 19, produced a record household delivery of 2,173,000 and a 2.7 rating, which tied the previous final round ratings high from 1991. TNT sports highlights for the past week include the following:

TNT’s 2001 PGA Championship coverage averaged a network record 2.1, up 17% from last year’s 1.8 average, and up 24% from TNT’s debut coverage in 1999 (1.7 average rating). Turner Sports has televised cable coverage of the PGA Championship since 1991. This was the third consecutive year that TNT aired the event, which was previously seen on TBS Superstation.
