Veteran American tennis player Jim Courier has signed a multi-year deal with Turner Sports as a television analyst for Wimbledon coverage on Turner Network Television (TNT) and CNN/Sports Illustrated. In Courier's first-ever television assignment, he will debut on the 2001 Wimbledon Championships, including 89 hours of programming on TNT (61) and CNN/Sports Illustrated (28). Coverage begins on Saturday, June 24, with TNT's two preview shows, and match play airs Monday, June 26, through Sunday, July 9. The deal was announced today by Turner Sports Vice President and Executive Producer Mike Pearl.

"We're thrilled to have Jim on our team as we prepare for our first ever production of Wimbledon," said Pearl. "He'll draw upon 13 years of experience as a very successful player to provide our viewers with expert analysis."

Courier retired earlier this month after 12 years on the ATP Tour, finishing with over $13.5 million in career prize money. A Singles and Doubles player, he began his career in 1987 at the age of 16, turned pro in 1988, and played through 1999, achieving his highest year-end ranking - number one - in 1992. In 1991, he became the first American to be ranked Number two since John McEnroe in 1985. Highlights from Courier's Grand Slam record include victories at the 1992 and 1993 Australian Open; the 1991 and 1992 French Open; 1993 runner-up at Wimbledon; and 1991 runner-up at the U.S. Open. In addition, he is the only American since Davis Cup competition began in 1900 to win in five sets in the fifth and decisive match twice, 1998 and 1999.

Turner Network Television, currently seen in 77.5 million homes, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.'s 24-hour, advertiser-supported service offering original motion pictures and miniseries; original series, non-fiction specials and live events; contemporary films from the world's largest film library, the combined Turner and Warner Bros. Turner Sports, Inc. presents some of the best and most popular sporting events worldwide, and is a leader in televised sports programming.
