Turner Sports Signs Martina Navratilova as Wimbledon Television AnalystUpdated: Thursday August 09, 2001 4:01 PMNine-time Wimbledon singles champion Martina Navratilova has signed a multi-year agreement with Turner Sports as a television analyst for Wimbledon coverage on Turner Network Television (TNT) and CNN/Sports Illustrated, it was announced today by Turner Sports Senior Vice President and Executive Producer Mike Pearl. Navratilova will work throughout the 2001 Wimbledon Championships, which includes 89 total hours of programming on TNT (61 hours) and CNN/Sports Illustrated (28 hours). Coverage begins on Saturday, June 24, with TNT's two preview shows, and match play airs Monday, June 26, through Friday, July 7. "Martina's experience with this event, both on the court and as an analyst, makes her a valuable addition to our team," said Pearl. "We're thrilled to have the best of both worlds - Martina in the booth for us and on the court, as she pursues her 20th title, participating in the women's doubles." Navratilova retired in November 1994, after 20 years as a professional on the WTA Tour, having earned more than $20 million in career prize money. She accumulated 18 Grand Slam singles titles, 31 doubles titles and seven mixed doubles. Her 19 titles at Wimbledon make her one shy of Billie Jean King's record of 20, which she can tie this year in the women's doubles with partner Mariaan de Swardt of South Africa. She worked as an analyst on HBO's coverage of the Wimbledon Championships from 1995 through 1999.
