TNT to Air Williams World Challenge Presented by Target Featuring Winners of All Four Majors For release: Dec. 4, 2001 The world's number-one-ranked golfer, Tiger Woods, and other top players return to TNT when the network televises six hours of live golf from the third annual Williams World Challenge Presented by Target, on Thursday, Dec. 13, and Friday, Dec. 14. TNT will air early-round coverage live from 4-7 p.m. (ET) on both days from the Sherwood Country Club near Los Angeles, and NBC will broadcast the final two rounds on Saturday, Dec. 15, and Sunday, Dec. 16. TNT has the cable rights to televise this event for three years, through 2002. Jim Huber will serve as host and essayist for TNT. In addition, TNT will feature NBC's announce team: play-by-play commentator Dan Hicks, analysts Roger Maltbie and Gary Koch, and course reporters Mark Rolfing and Jimmy Roberts. The tournament is a 72-hole, stroke-play event featuring 18 of the world's best players. It benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation, which initiates and supports community-based programs that promote the health, education and welfare of America's children. The field includes tournament host and 2001 Masters champion Woods, 2001 British Open winner David Duval, 2001 U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen, 2001 PGA Championship winner David Toms, Williams World Challenge defending champion Davis Love III, Vijay Singh, Darren Clarke, Jim Furyk, Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, Scott Verplank, Padraig Harrington, Scott Hoch, Fred Couples, Thomas Bjorn, Lee Westwood, Jesper Parnevik and Mark O'Meara. This year's winner will receive $1 million from the total $4.1 million purse.
