ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Shirley Povich
December 08, 1958
This article probably will create some unrest in the family of Shirley Povich, 53, sports columnist for the Washington Post and Times-Herald, and father of three. Two of his offspring, David, 23, and Maury, 19, were ardent basketball players in school and remain loyal fans. Their father changed from fan to ex-fan in that period: "It got so I was rooting as hard against the referees as I was for the boys," he says. And no man could better depict what Povich pre feels than Jules Feiffer, whose psychiatric cartoon book Sick, Sick, Sick is now selling almost as fast as a cut-rate analysis.
