Rentmeester and Conley, both 20 and students at Armstrong State College in Savannah, each won her weight class at the national collegiate weightlifting championships, in Shreveport, La. Competing in the 141-pound division, Rentmeester broke national junior records for the snatch (182 pounds), clean and jerk (226) and total weight (408) and was named the woman lifter of the meet. Conley broke the same three records in the 182�-pound class. She lifted 165 pounds in the snatch and 204 in the clean and jerk for a total of 369. Conley also holds national junior records in the 167�-and 154�-pound weight classes.
Shaun, a junior at Boone County High, rushed for 2,396 yards and 42 touchdowns this season, including 334 yards and seven TDs in the Rebels' season finale, a win against Campbell County High. Shaun, who is also class president, led the team to the Class 4A state semifinals.
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.
McDaniels, 65, won gold medals in the heptathlon, high jump, pole vault and 4 X 100-meter relay in the 65-69 age group at the World Veterans Championships in Miyazaki, Japan. She also took home three silver medals and a bronze.
For the second time in three years, Hundeby, 22, was named Long Distance Swimmer of the Year by U.S. Swimming. He broke the 10-year-old record for covering the 18.5 nautical miles between Catalina Island, Calif., and the mainland in 8:14.46.
Campisi, 40, coached the boys' soccer team at Shenendehowa High to its fifth Class A state championship in six years. In 14 years under Campisi, the Plainsmen have gone 255-34-12 and twice been named national champions (in 1988 and '91).
