Isaac, 17, and Oscar, 19, wrestling in the 154-and 132-pound divisions, respectively, both won Greco-Roman and freestyle championships at the junior nationals, in Fargo, N.Dak., to become the first brothers to be double winners in the same year. Isaac amassed an 18-0 record, including four pins, and outscored his opponents 139-14. Oscar put together a 19-0 record, including seven pins, and outscored his competitors 119-16. Oscar is also the first grappler to win four consecutive Greco-Roman championships at the junior nationals and the second to win five career titles at the meet.

Valerie Kanavy
FORT VALLEY, VA.
Kanavy, 48, a retired operating-room technician, won the 100-mile test at the world equestrian games in The Hague. Riding her 12-year-old Arabian, Pieraz, she had an overall time of 12 hours and six minutes, which was nearly six minutes faster than the second-place finisher.

Joseph Gonzalez
CERRITOS, CALIF.
Joseph, 17, is the first U.S. pistol shooter since 1964 to earn a gold medal in Olympic or world championship competition. In the men's junior division at this year's worlds in Italy, he won the rapid-fire event, placed second in both free and sports pistol and was third in standard pistol.

Kevin Eastler
FARMINGTON, MAINE
Kevin, 17, broke the U.S. record for 17- and 18-year-olds in the 3,000-meter race walk with a time of 12:54.8 at the Junior Olympics, in Gainesville, Fla. He finished more than two minutes ahead of runner-up Giaccamo Meeks. At last year's meet Kevin won the 15- and 16-year-old age group.

Scott Sanders
MOBILE, ALA.
Scott, 12, placed first in the 11- and 12-year-old division in the one-and three-meter diving competitions and won the high-point award for divers of all ages at the state sports festival. It is the third year in a row he has won the one- and three-meter and finished with the most points at the festival.
