Every time boxing seems to lose its appeal someone comes along and regenerates interest in it. Thank you, George.

May I add to your list of "Unrivaled Rivalries" the annual season finale between Allegany and Fort Hill, the two public high schools in Cumberland, Md. This year both teams came in with 9-0 records, and the game attracted 14,000 fans. Fort Hill won 28-21.
Among those who have played in or coached this 59-year-old rivalry are Earle Bruce, who succeeded Woody Hayes at Ohio State; Mark Manges, who appeared on your Oct. 4, 1976, cover when he was quarterback at Maryland; Rod Breedlove, an All-Pro linebacker during his NFL career with the Redskins and the Steelers from 1960 to '67; and Steve Trimble, who played defensive back for the Broncos from 1981 to '83.

How could you fail to list the oldest high school football rivalry west of the Mississippi? Since 1907 the Kirkwood Pioneers and the Webster Groves Statesmen have played on Thanksgiving Day here in Missouri for the Frisco Bell. Participants have included Alvin Miller (Notre Dame) and Jay Leeuwenburg ( Colorado, the Chicago Bears).
