Maguire and McGurn, freshmen lacrosse attackmen at Ohio Wesleyan, became only the fourth pair of teammates in Division III history to score 50 goals apiece in the same season. McGurn poured in 63 goals while setting a North Coast Athletic Conference single-season record, he paced the Battling Bishops in scoring with 83 points and he was named the conference's player of the year. Maguire had 53 goals, third best in the league, and a team-high 21 assists. Maguire and McGurn led Ohio Wesleyan to a 13-4 record and a third-place finish in the Division III tournament.

She-Rae, a sophomore at Gunn High competing in her first Central Coast Section gymnastics championships, won the all-around crown with 38.00 points. She finished first on the beam, bars, vault and in the floor exercise, and led the Titans to their third straight CCS title.
Stephenson, 49, earned his 1,000th victory as coach of the Wichita State baseball team in his 18th year of coaching, the fastest any Division I baseball coach has reached that milestone. The Shockers have appeared in six College World Series under Stephenson, and he has coached 33 All-Americas.
Christa, a Dobie High junior, pitched a perfect game with 14 strikeouts and drove in the game-winning RBI in an 11-0 victory over Piano East High, leading the 33-0 lady Longhorns to the Class 5A state Softball title. She had a no-hitter and a one-hitter in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
Godina, a senior at UCLA, became the first weightman to win three consecutive Pac-10 titles in both the shot and the discus. His discus throw of 211' 9" was a record for the conference meet, as was his 71' 4�" put, which was also the longest in the world so far this year.
