Lots of Rice but No Rison

What does Jerry Rice have in common with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jesus Christ, Dan Marino Sr., Bernie Kosar Sr. and Terry Breitsprecher? All were named by NFL quarterbacks in this week's poll, which asked: If you had one pass left to throw, whom would you want on the receiving end? Both Dan Marino and Bernie Kosar chose their fathers, while 6'8" Miami Dolphin teammate Dan McGwire singled out Abdul-Jabbar. Randall Cunningham named Jesus, "because he wouldn't drop it." And Breitsprecher was the choice of the Arizona Cardinals' Dave Krieg—he and Breitsprecher were a formidable combination at D.C. Everest High, in Schofield, Wis.

Rice (left) was the overwhelming choice, receiving 28 of 53 votes. Conspicuously unchosen was Cleveland Brown Andre Rison (right), a four-time Pro Bowl selection who apparently lacks the mojo of Fred Biletnikoff, Steve Largent and Art Monk, retired legends who each drew one vote.

The most engaging reply came from New Orleans Saint Jim Everett, who said, "My wife." Congratulations, Christin, you're in good company.
