Vern embraced his son warmly. He first brought Bobby to the Horseshoe in the fall of 1981, when he was a nine-year-old, and they never stopped coming back. He thought back to that autumn afternoon when the Ohio State masses called for Bobby's removal. " Columbus isn't the easiest place in the world to be a quarterback," Vern said. "It was tough, very tough.
"But you know what happened?" said Vern about Bobby. "He grew up, that's what happened."
They all grew up. Coach, players, team. That's what happened.
