SAN JOSE
Vinay, 11, finished fourth in the under-12 division of the world junior chess championships in S�o Lorenco, Brazil. He was named the best U.S. chess player under 13 and last year became the youngest American ever to achieve a Master's rating, by 33 days.

Phil Caporrella
ETOBICOKE, ONT.
Caporrella, a senior midfielder on the Humber College soccer team, was named Canadian Colleges Athletic Association tournament MVP after leading the 14-0-1 Hawks to a 2-0 win in the championship game against Mount Royal College. In six tournament games he had five goals.

Jules Cesar
NEWTON, MASS.
Jules, a senior running back for the Trinity Catholic High football team, scored touchdowns the four times he touched the ball in a 32-0 win against St. Clemens High. The Division Six player of the year for the 8-3 Falcons, he ran for 312 yards on bursts of 91, 53, 80 and 88 yards.

Ken Pagan
SUDBURY, ONT.
Pagan, a junior left wing on the Carleton University hockey team, scored game-winning goals on consecutive nights to lead the Ravens to the Northern College Cup title. In the final game Pagan capped a four-goal rally with five minutes to play as Carleton beat Haileybury 8-7.

Maxann Reese
HIGHLAND PARK, MICH.
Maxann, a 5'8" senior guard on the Redford Bishop Borgess High girls' basketball team, averaged 15.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 4.5 steals this season and was named Michigan's Miss Basketball. She led the Spartans to three consecutive Class C championship games and two titles.

Hillary Loren Sago
MESCALERO, N.MEX.
Hillary, a senior on the Tularosa High cross-country team, won the Class A-AA state title with a time of 16:33. He also played wide receiver and returned kicks for the Wildcat football team and six times won races on the Saturday morning after a Friday-night game.
