Supporters of the bill, primarily conservative Republicans, see H.R. 1675 as a way to roll back environmental laws that they believe to be unnecessarily restrictive to hunters, outdoorsmen and property owners. But the bill goes too far. Just how far is evident in the opposition arrayed against it: at least two dozen environmental organizations, as well as Nathaniel P. Reed and Constance B. Harriman, who, respectively, served the Nixon and Bush administrations as Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
