Jason, 15, won the age 15-16 super middleweight boxing title at the U.S. Junior Olympics by outpointing Charles Tanner of Gary, Ind., 5-0 in the finals. Jason has earned the New England Junior Olympic crown seven straight years and the Region I title three times in a row.

Paul Spengler
PEBBLE BEACH, CALIF.
Spengler, 57, won the California Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach when he shot an eight-over-par 224 to defeat Bob Imlay of San Diego by one stroke. Spengler was the Hawaiian amateur titlist in 1964, '65 and '69.

LANDER, WYO.

Dee, a senior-to-be at Little Rock Hall High, broke the oldest state high school girls' track and field record when she leaped 20'1" to win the Class AAAA long jump title. The previous mark of 19'8�" was set by Arkadelphia's Wanda Harris in 1977. Dee successfully defended her state pentathlon title by amassing the second-highest point total (4,169) in meet history. Shelly, also a senior-to-be, at Lander Valley High, set a Wyoming girls' high school mark in the discus with a toss of 152'5" at the state meet. The throw gave Shelly the 3A state championship for the third consecutive year. She placed fourth in the prestigious Golden West meet last year.

Charles Paiva
DELTONA, FLA.
Paiva, 20, set three U.S. junior weightlifting records in the 141-pound class at the American Open by lifting 253 pounds in the snatch and 324.5 in the clean and jerk for a total of 577.5. He finished second at the Olympic trials and at the national championships.

Edward Stanhope
AUBURN, MAINE
Stanhope, 50, a mailman, broke two U.S. shooting records in the Masters II (ages 50-60) group at the Interservice Running Target Championships. He established the Olympic-match mark by scoring 553 out of a possible 600 points and the mixed-match record with 357 out of 400.
