Brandon, 16, won the National Junior Triathlon sprint championship in the 13-16 age group when he swam a half mile in 8:42, rode a bike 11 miles in 26:42 and ran three miles in 18:48, for a total time of 54:11. He also won the boys' 15-17 division at the national age-group championships. His brother, Bryan, 14, finished first in the IronKids national triathlon championships for competitors up to 14 years old when he completed the 200-meter swim, the 10-km bike ride and the 2-km run in 26:27. He also won the 12-year-old age group at the 1994 IronKids national, and finished third among 13-year-olds at the '95 competition.

Dayne, a June graduate of Overbrook High, was named outstanding male athlete at the Golden West Invitational high school track and field meet after throwing the discus 216'11", third longest ever by a U.S. high school student. He now attends Wisconsin on a football scholarship.
Abby Spector
WATERVILLE, MAINE
Abby, 15, became the youngest player to win the 54-hole women's state amateur golf championship when she shot a five-over-par 227 to defeat Thea Davis, 38, of Plymouth by nine strokes. Abby, a sophomore at Waterville High, won the state high school girls' title last fall.
Bill Gardner
LITCHFIELD, CONN.
Gardner, 52, a commercial real estate developer, became the oldest canoeist to win the C1 amateur division of the General Clinton Flatwater Endurance Race when he paddled the 70-mile course in 8:05:13, edging Michael Fairchild of Guilford, Vt., 45, who finished in 8:05:34.

Nicholson, 20, a shortstop, was named MVP of the Cape Cod summer baseball league after leading Wareham-Gateman to a first-place regular-season finish, with a 29—15 record. He hit .315 and led the league in doubles (18), extra-base hits (22) and total bases (76).
