Gough, a 25-year-old Marine corporal, broke seven American senior records and had a total lift of 826� pounds in the 218�-pound class to win his third consecutive national title at the U.S. weightlifting championships. He set one mark in the snatch, three in the clean and jerk, and three in total weight.

Gray, a senior second baseman at Mount Vernon Nazarene College, was named National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) most valuable player after batting .636 and slugging 1.909 over three tournament games to carry the Cougars to their third straight NCCAA title.

Kristin, 16, and Kristal, 10, members of the Parkettes National Gymnastics Team, each won an individual all-around title at a major national competition. Kristin was first in the senior all-around at the American Classic in New Haven, Conn., and a week later she placed second in the same event at the International Team Championship in Cincinnati. Kristal won the all-around crown in the 9-12 age division at the Junior Olympic national championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The youngest competitor at the meet, Kristal also won the uneven bars and the balance beam and placed second in the vault.
Owen Hargreaves
CALGARY
Owen, 16, a midfielder, had five goals in four tournament games to lead the Calgary Foothills Under-17 soccer team to the provincial title. Owen, who finished the season with 21 goals, became the first North American accepted to play for Bayern Munich's elite youth development team.

MESA, ARIZ.
Durbin, 19, won the men's forms black belt grand championship at the Battle of Atlanta Karate Star Wars tournament in his first year of competing as an adult. A consistent top-10 junior competitor, he is now ranked first in the U.S. in the black belt men's musical forms category.
