?NIKE TOUR: The minor leagues? Not when it comes to charity. Since 1990 the junior circuit has raised more than $10 million.

?WONDERFUL WORLD OF GOLF: The Shell lineup for '97 includes Kite versus Seve, Couples versus Watson and Faldo versus Lehman, among other matchups. Notably missing: Woods versus anyone.

? U.S. OPEN QUALIFIERS: Frank Lickliter and Sean Murphy will play, but David Frost won't?

? GREG NORMAN: An independent TV production company was ready to pit the Shark against Tiger in a best-of-three match, but Norman turned down the action due to scheduling conflicts. Rats.

? GARY NICKLAUS: He'll finally be joining the old man at the Open, but this time as a player, not a caddie.

?FRED COUPLES: Fred Couples not on the Ryder Cup team? He'll either have to pick up the pace or get in captain Kite's good graces. Couples is 16th on the points list.

?TOUR CADDIES: The USGA will let 'em wear shorts during the Open. Players, however, still have to suffer.

?TIGER'S TIME: PEOPLE put him on the cover. He's starting to make Dennis Rodman look like J.D. Salinger.
