In spring training Rangers general manager Doug Melvin pointed out that a catcher's offensive production usually falls off after he's played 900 games in the majors. But that didn't stop Texas from signing Ivan Rodriguez (left) to a five-year, $42 million contract extension last Thursday, at which point he had played 832 games. Here are the average season totals of 10 All-Star backstops from the 1970s and '80s for the three years leading up to and including their 900th game and for the three seasons thereafter.
