?TIGRESS WOODS: According to Tiger, "The answer is, no, I don't have a girlfriend."

?IMG: Its clients have won half of the events on all of the world's tours in 1997.

? BUTCH HARMON: Tiger has awfully long coattails. The latest rider: Harmon, whose book The Four Cornerstones of Winning Golf has his No. 1 pupil on the cover.

? GREG NORMAN: "Does [ Tiger Woods] motivate me? Not at all. I motivate myself to be a better player. I don't care what other people do."

? IRELAND: The Irish successfully defended their title in the World Pitch & Putt championship, but it's a small world. Only three other teams competed.

? LEN MATTIACE: Last year he won the World Putting Championship. This year he ranks 132nd on the Tour with the flat stick.

? PGA: This week's field will be the strongest of any tournament in the '90s, which should come as no surprise. Seven of the top 10 fields this decade have been PGAs.

? TOMMY TOLLES: ' Tom Kite asked me who I thought he should pick [for the Ryder Cup team]. I said Paul Stankowski and David Duval. The team's inexperienced anyway. Why not go all the way?"
