The Hawks were 5-0 in overtime games last season and heading into this season had won their last eight regular-season OT games, dating to April 11, 1995. That put them within three overtime victories of the NBA record for consecutive OT wins. Coach Lenny Wilkens, the league's alltime leader in coaching victories, with 1,070, ranked fourth in career overtime wins, six behind leader Dick Motta.
