The Davis Cup finals between the U.S. and Sweden—the first two singles matches will be telecast Friday on ESPN at 1 p.m. and on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. (both tape-delayed)—brings to mind the David Letterman sketch "Let's Look for Swedes." During his days on NBC, Letterman occasionally trained his outdoor cameras on Fifth Avenue in search of folks possessed of Nordic mien. That was funny. How many people outside of Stockholm, or IKEA, can identify Jonas Bjorkman (even though he's the world's fourth-ranked player) or Thomas Enqvist, who could represent Sweden in the finals this week? That's not funny. That's the state of tennis today.
