The Seminoles have won two games in the last five weeks and finished tied for sixth (6-10) in the ACC. But, hey, they beat Connecticut and Arizona back in the Pleistocene Era (November and December), so they got handed a berth despite a 17-13 record. The committee might as well have given Minnesota (15-15) a bid for those big wins the Gophers had last March.
The Hurricanes were pretty darn good early in the season, pretty darn mediocre in the middle, pretty darn bad at the end, staggering to an 18-9 record in a not-so-strong Big East. That included a first-round exit in the conference tournament to bidless Georgetown. Perhaps the NCAA, in a moment of confusion, thought it was dispensing invitations to the Orange Bowl.
