WHAT THEY NEEDED: Pitching of every kind. A good second baseman. Infield depth.
WHAT THEY GOT: Houston ace Darryl Kile, Expos second baseman Mike Lansing and long relievers Chuck McElroy and Dave Veres.
WHAT IT ALL MEANS: Kile's no Greg Maddux, but he is one of the NL's top 10 pitchers, and they'll also have Pedro Astacio for a full season, so pitching has improved dramatically. Lansing solidifies the middle, and rookie first baseman Todd Helton should step in ably for the departed Andres Galarraga. And even if he doesn't, Colorado isn't exactly starving at the plate. If the pitching holds up, this will be a very dangerous club.
