Striking big league success and a record of 129-47 for the Cuban national team don't change the fact that Orlando Hernandez is still a rookie—and one of only four Yankees pitchers whose next playoff appearance will be their first. Hideki Irabu was left off New York's 1997 postseason roster and never made the playoffs in nine seasons of pitching in Japan. Rookie Mike Jerzembeck and Joe Borowski, who may or may not be on the roster in October, are the other two. The rest of the staff's members all have proved themselves in the postseason, including David Wells (above) and David Cone (left).
