Irvin, a freshman at Stanford, was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's women's player of the month after winning the singles title at the Rolex National Indoor Championships. She has won her last 20 matches and is ranked No. 2 among college players.

Tesha Tinsley, Baltimore
Basketball
Tinsley, a senior guard at Northeastern, scored 28 points and assisted on the final basket in the 57-55 defeat of top-seeded Maine that gave the Huskies the America East Conference title and their first NCAA berth. She led Northeastern in points, assists and steals over the last two years.

Erin Aldrich, Dallas
Track and Field
Aldrich, a junior at Texas, won her second consecutive indoor national high jump title, with a leap of 6'3�", two inches less than her NCAA women's record. She also led the Longhorns volleyball team in blocks (131) and was second in kills (3.55 per game) and hitting percentage (.333).

Jennifer Payne, Glenview, Ill.
Badminton
Payne, a senior at Albright College, won four Pennsylvania Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women singles championships and had a 29-1 conference record during her varsity career. She's also a three-time All-America and a four-time conference all-star.

Ralph Everett, Miami
Wrestling
Ralph, a senior at Southridge Senior High, won a state championship for the third straight year, with a defeat of Joel Theodore of North Miami High in the 171-pound class. He also led the Spartans football team in tackles for the last three years and earned a football scholarship to Hofstra.

Don Hibbs, Nahmakanta Lake, Maine
Dogsledding
Hibbs, 42, won his second 250-mile Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Race in 24 hours, 51 minutes and 40 seconds, breaking his own 1997 record by more than three hours. He beat four-time champ Andr� Nadeau, 42, of St. Melanie, Que., by more than two hours.
