Had he not double-bogeyed the 16th hole on Sunday, Sprint International winner David Toms would've been the first player to reach 50 points in the 14-year history of the Stableford event. With 47, Toms tied '98 champ Vijay Singh for the second-highest total (one behind '97 winner Phil Mickelson) and got his second Tour victory....

Woods, who missed the third-round cut by a stroke (but still earned $12,480), has failed to make it to the final round of a tournament only three times in 66 starts as a pro. Woods missed the cut in the '97 Canadian Open and withdrew from last year's rain-delayed AT&T Pro-Am.

LPGA

For the second year in a row, an Ohio State alum, Rosie Jones, won the Firstar Classic at the Country Club of the North in Beaver Creek, Ohio. Jones beat Becky Iverson and Jan Stephenson in a playoff. Buckeye Meg Mallon won in '98....

Stephenson, 47, would've been the oldest LPGA winner. JoAnne Carner was 46 when she won the '85 Safeco Classic.

SENIOR
Tom McGinnis, who beat Hale Irwin in a playoff at the BankBoston Classic, is the fifth rookie winner of '99, after Bruce Fleisher, Allen Doyle, Gary McCord and Christy O'Connor.

Colin Montgomerie won his fifth European tour event this year, topping Harrington by three shots at the BMW International Open in Munich....
