Next on her agenda is her third stint on the U.S. Olympic team, which will gather later this month to begin preparations for the 2000 Games. (She won a gold medal with the '88 team, a bronze in '92 and was not a member of the '96 team.) But as the nonalcoholic champagne flowed in the Compaq Center locker room, Cooper, wearing Perrot's jersey between her own and a championship T-shirt, wasn't ready to leave this season behind. "This championship was tough because we had to win it with broken hearts," she said, "but I think Kim is proud."
