My Two Cents
Dolphins defensive end Trace Armstrong, who turns 35 next week, is the most underrated player in the league. A situational pass rusher, he leads the AFC in sacks, with 6 and is on track for his third double-digit sack season in five years....

The best uniform in football is the one the Giants wear at home: royal-blue jersey with gray pants and NY helmet logo....

Every Cowboys defender should hang his head in shame after the heretofore winless 49ers and their beat-up offensive line produced 261 rushing yards and scored 41 points....

I must have slept through the '90s. Is Ricky Watters (below) really just 35 yards short of passing Earl Campbell on the NFL career rushing list?

The Book

An AFC scout sizes up Rams defensive end Kevin Carter, the NFL sack champion in 1999 who was fined by coach Mike Martz and pulled from the starting lineup for missing practice one day last week.

"He hasn't adjusted to the increased attention he's getting from offenses. [Carter has two sacks in four games.] Everyone's chipping him with a back or a tight end in addition to hitting him with a tackle on most passing plays. He's still a great talent and quick for his size. But great pass rushers fight through double teams, and he hasn't shown he can do that. His lack of pressure is a big reason why the Rams are getting waxed on defense. Last year he mixed up his rushes and seemed to get five or six legit pressures a game. Now he's getting only one or two."

The Last Word

"The quickest thing that tears a team down is success. It happened to Dallas. It happened to San Francisco. It's happening to us."
