How many fights do you work a year?
Hell, I don't know. At least a couple hundred. Maybe more.
How did you get started as a cutman?
I have a passion for blood. My life's ambition was to be a mortician.
Seriously. I boxed as a kid, and like a premonition, I knew I'd end up in boxing my whole life. I just didn't know what it would be specifically. I started in the early 1960s as a cutman.
How did you learn the job?
I did a lot of reading. I read several articles about Whitey Bin-stein, a cutman in the 1930s. He was one of the greatest. I listened to other people, and I watched TV.
How much money does a cutman make?
A good one can make up to $85,000 for a championship fight.
