A's righthander Jim Mecir has 209 big league appearances, all in relief. Over the past three seasons, with the Devil Rays and Oakland, he has been one of the game's best vultures—gobbling up 17 wins in 23 relief decisions. But in 2001 he has lost at an alarming rate, getting the L in four of Oakland's first 15 games. Mecir still has a way to go before reaching the record for relief losses, though.
