Until the mid-1990s Boston College, the defending NCAA champion, rarely recruited outside New England, but two of its best players this season, sophomore forward Ben Eaves and freshman defenseman John Adams, are Minnesotans. How important have those players been to the Eagles? With Eaves (broken ribs) and Adams (broken thumb) out with injuries in January, BC lost six consecutive games; with the duo back in the lineup it had won four of its last five through Sunday....

After the college season the NHL's Wild may sign RPI junior center Mark Cavosie, who was the 99th selection in the 2000 draft. Cavosie, who's 6 feet and 160 pounds, has dominated the ECAC this season (45 points in 29 games) but would need to get stronger to play in the NHL....

The top three candidates to replace Michigan State coaching legend and athletic-director-to-be Ron Mason following the season are Jeff Jackson, the former coach at Lake Superior State who is behind the bench for Guelph in the Ontario Hockey League; Kelly Miller, a former Spartans player who's an assistant with the Islanders; and Michigan State assistant Tom Newton....

NHL scouts are flocking to watch 6'5" goalie Joe Pearce, a 19-year-old who's playing for the New Hampshire (junior) Monarchs. Pearce is eligible for the draft and has verbally committed to Boston College. The Eagles, however, are stocked in net with junior Tim Kelleher and freshman Matti Kaltiainen, so Pearce will play one more season in juniors.
