Elbow Groom
Lance Armstrong gets medical attention during the fifth stage of the Dauphin� Lib�r� race on June 13, after a fall on the road between the French towns of Morzine and Chamb�ry. Armstrong, who injured his right elbow and buttock, lost the stage but went on to win the race.

Bid Adieu
Spectacular Bid, seen here at Milfer Farm in upstate New York last year, died of a heart attack on June 9 at the age of 27 (page 26). The 1979 Derby and Preakness winner, who finished third in the Belmont, wasn't always a venerable graybeard (see inset).
