1. Texas and Indiana are raking in recruits. Longhorns coach Rick Barnes and Hoosiers coach Mike Davis were the big winners during the July evaluation period. Texas secured oral commitments from 6'3" guard Daniel Gibson and 6'11" center LaMarcus Aldridge, while Indiana got 6'8" swingman Josh Smith and 6'9" forward D.J. White.
2. Georgetown is falling apart at the seams. Besides losing 6'7" junior forward Mike Sweetney to the NBA draft, the Hoyas have also had two players transfer (Drew Hall to Gonzaga, Tony Bethel to N.C. State), while their top recruit, Darian Townes, was declared academically ineligible.
3. The SEC is headed for a down year. One of the top two conferences over the past three seasons, only three of the 15 players who were chosen first-, second- or third-team all-SEC last year are back, and just two of the league's top 10 scorers return.
