Ariel Rittenhouse, SANTA CRUZ, CALIF. DivingAriel, a seventh-grader at Holy Cross School, won the one-meter event for her age group at the Junior Pan American Championships. She also won a silver medal in the platform dive. Her mother, Sharon, a swimmer, was a Face in the Crowd in 1962.

Ariel Rittenhouse, SANTA CRUZ, CALIF.
Diving
Ariel, a seventh-grader at Holy Cross School, won the one-meter event for her age group at the Junior Pan American Championships. She also won a silver medal in the platform dive. Her mother, Sharon, a swimmer, was a Face in the Crowd in 1962.

Kirwin Watson, SUNRISE, FLA.
Football
Watson, a senior running back at Fordham, gained 139 yards in the season opener and became the Rams' alltime leading rusher, with 3,279 yards. He holds season records for yards and touchdowns and was the 2002 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year.

Melinda Lyon, BOXFORD, MASS.
Cycling
Lyon, 40, a cardiovascular technologist, won her second Paris-Brest-Paris Randonneurs. She completed the 112-year-old, 750-mile race in 54:48, sleeping for two 10-minute intervals and finishing ahead of her closest female rival by three hours.

Zack Lloyd, ELY, NEV.
Track and Field
Zack, a senior at White Pine High, is the 2003 national shot put champion and ranks No. 1 in the nation for high school boys with a throw of 66'7". He was named to USA Today's All- USA high school boys' track and field team.

Lettice Graham, NEW YORK CITY
Senior Games
Graham, 81, a retired AT&T service rep, won three gold medals at the Empire State Senior Games, placing first in her age group in the 100-and 400-meter dashes and the high jump. She also competes for the Harlem Honey and Bears Swim Team.

Jeff Olsen, MARIETTA, GA.
Wrestling
Jeff, a seventh-grader at Dickerson Middle School, won a USA Wrestling triple crown by taking the 95-pound national novice folkstyle championship and the 100-pound novice titles in freestyle and Greco-Roman. He also won a triple crown in 2001.

Theresa Logar, ROCHESTER HILLS, MICH.
Tennis
Logar, a freshman at Stanford, won the girls' singles title for 18-year-olds at die United States Tennis Association's Super National Hard Court Championships, the most prestigious event in junior tennis. The victory earned her a wild-card spot at the U.S. Open.

1
