Palmisiano, 79, a retired postal carrier, was inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame. In 13 years of senior ball, the leftfielder played on four national title teams (all four went on to win the World Series) and won three national MVP awards.
Mary Kate Cordisco, BETHLEHEM, PA.
Volleyball
Cordisco, a senior hitter at Moravian College, set an NCAA record when she scored 25 consecutive service points in a 30-2 victory over Washington College. Her 18 aces in that match set a school record.
Jereme Leafe, MONROE, N.H.
Mountainboarding
Leafe, a sophomore at New Hampshire, won the Big Air event and finished third in DirtboarderX, which gave him enough points to win the men's title at the U.S. Open Mountainboarding Championships. In January he won the world championship in dual slalom.
Shannon Sheesley, EAST POINT, GA.
Weightlifting
Shannon, a junior at Woodward Academy, won a gold medal in the 53-kilograms weight class at the Pan American School Age Championships in Colorado Springs. She is the top-ranked school age (16 and under) female in the country for all weight classes.

Soccer
Bean, the men's soccer coach at Wheaton, won his 545th game, breaking the NCAA men's soccer record for career wins. During his 35 years at Wheaton, the Thunder have won two national championships and had only two losing seasons.
Kira Costa, LEMOORE, CALIF.
Track and Field
Costa, a freshman pole vaulter at the University of California, ended her high school career by setting a national girls' record of 13'8�" at the Golden West Invitational in June. She also holds the national high school indoor record of 13'4�".
Ryan Grossenbacher, PORTLAND
Handball
Grossenbacher, 36, a painting contractor, won the open division at the United States Handball Association's National Championships in East Lansing, Mich. He is the oldest competitor to win a national open title in handball.
