UCLA senior defensive ends Dave and Mat Ball were born 15 minutes apart and have the same quirky sense of humor. UCLA senior defensive ends Dave and Mat Ball were born 15 minutes apart and have the same quirky sense of humor. Roommates for the last five years (they redshirted as freshmen in 1999), they have taken the same classes (both are history majors) and share a proclivity for sacking opposing quarterbacks.

They are a major reason that UCLA (6-4) has a shot at knocking off USC on Nov. 22. Dave, 6'6" and 275 pounds, is the better of the two and leads the nation with 13 sacks. Mat, also 6'6" but 10 pounds heavier, became a full-time starter this season and has 25 tackles. "This year has been a lot of fun playing alongside my brother," says Dave. "I have a lot of pride when he makes a big play, and I know he's always cheering for me."
