1. Emeka Okafor better get used to the hack-a- Shaq treatment. Connecticut's All-America center, a career 60.5% free throw shooter, made just five of his 12 attempts in UConn's 77-61 loss to Georgia Tech on Nov. 26. Future foes will no doubt try to exploit this Achilles' heel.

2. It's going to be a looooongwinter in Amherst and in Queens. The preseason pessimism surrounding Massachusetts and St. John's only intensified when the Minutemen lost to Hartford and the Red Storm was beaten by Fairfield.

3. Everyone's going to have to learn the correct pronunciation of Matt Freije's last name. It's FREE-jee—and the stock of Vanderbilt's 6'10" senior forward, who was voted the SEC's preseason player of the year, is on the rise after 15 NBA scouts watched him score 32 points and grab 13 rebounds in the Commodores' 73-60 win over Indiana last week.
