Heather, a junior at Notre Dame High, became the first female in the state ever to score any points in a high school football game when she kicked a PAT in the Fightin' Irish's 39-7 loss to East Ridge in the season opener.

Winston, 40, an auto salesman and a catcher-first baseman on the Alert Lear softball team, was MVP of the national 35-and-over tournament in Daytona Beach. He hit .833, with 12 HRs in six games, to lead Alert Lear to the title.

MEMPHIS
Black, who is a 70-year-old grandmother of eight and a golfer since 1976, scored a hole in one during the Memphis area women's championships. She used a four-wood to ace the 122-yard, par-3 13th hole at the Stone-bridge Country Club.

FORT BENNING, GA.
Dubis, 27, who is an Army marksmanship instructor, won a meet-high seven medals, including two golds, at the world rifle shooting championships in Skovde, Sweden. He set a world record in the 300-meter individual event with 1,174 points.

SHARON WOOD
CANMORE, ALBERTA
Wood, 29, is the first North American woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. On May 20, Wood and her partner, Dwayne Congdon, took 12 hours to scale the final 2,282 feet on the upper west ridge of the 29,028-foot peak.

JACK CHRISTIANSEN
SEATTLE
Christiansen, a 24-year-old sailmaker, skippered a 17-foot Thistle to victory in the U.S. men's sailing championships, in Seattle. Christiansen and crew finished the eight-race series seven points ahead of Jay Golison of Long Beach, Calif.
