Marco Baldi, the 6'11" center from Italy who ran afoul of the NCAA last spring over some plane tickets, has been reinstated. That solves the problem of who will play center, but airplane tickets remain the only way by which Baldi will ever get off the ground. The Redmen will need more consistent inside play from Shelton Jones and Willie Glass, who wears enough gold to make him resemble the King Tut exhibit but who too often turns out to be cubic zirconium on set plays. The real dealer is still guard Mark Jackson, who averaged an NCAA-record 9.3 assists per game last season to go with his 11.3 points. "Everybody loves a passer," burbles coach Lou Carnesecca. "This season, though, I'm going to want a little of the other thing from Mark. Let's face it. He's got to score."
