HEATHER BURROUGHS KANSAS CITY, MO.Heather, 12, set a national record in the 1,500 meters for girls ages 11 and 12 at the TAC/U.S.A. Junior Nationals Olympic in Gainesville, Fla. She ran the distance in 4:42.58, 3.02 seconds better than the mark set by Miesha Marzell in 1987.

EAU CLAIRE, WIS.
Debby, 17, beat Alana Johnston of Quesnel, B.C., 41-32, to win the junior girls' World Horseshoe Championship for a record fourth time, in Pleasanton, Calif. She had five wins and one loss, with 166 ringers out of 284 shoes.

PRINCETON, N.J.
Samuel, 44, a police officer at Princeton University, lifted a total of 1,328 pounds in the squat, bench press and deadlift to finish first in the 40-to-50 age group at the U.S. Powerlifting Federation Natural national meet in Dallas.

BRETT SCHUTT
ARLINGTON, S.DAK.
Brett, 16, a shortstop and catcher for American Legion Post 42, hit two grand slams in the fourth inning of a 19-9 win over the Howard Legion Post 145 team. He came up a third time with the bases loaded in the 16-run inning, but grounded out.

FOR LAUDERDALE
Kenyon, 55, a retired receptionist, won two women's racquetball titles at the U.S. National Singles Championships. She defeated Kathy Mueller 15-14, 15-13 for the 50-plus title and beat Mary-Low Acuff, 69, for the 55-plus crown.

PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF.
Eric, who will be a seventh-grader at the Harvard School, had two holes in one during the first round of the Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego. He used a nine-iron to ace the 120-yard 4th and the 120-yard 6th holes.
