Michael Wenden, 16, of Sydney, broke two Australian swimming records in his 200-meter freestyle win at the New South Wales junior championships. Wenden took 0.6 seconds off the 100-meter freestyle mark on his way to a record 2:02.1 in the 200-meter.

Calvin Murphy, a 5-foot-10 guard from Norwalk ( Conn.) High School, broke the state single-game scoring record when he tallied 62 points against Roger Ludlowe High. Murphy averaged 39.3 points a game to lead his team to a 12-0 record so far this season.

Kip Rosenthal, 14, of Tarrytown, N.Y., and her gray gelding, Good Boy Dee, won the junior hunter championship with a perfect 15 points, the AHSA medal, the Maclay classes and the horsemanship title at the Holiday Farm horse show in River Vale, N.J.

Honey Kerr, a St. Lawrence University freshman, defended her senior ladies title in the Eastern Figure Skating Championships at Hershey, Pa. Miss Kerr, holder of an American-Canadian gold medal, took the compulsory figures and placed third in free-skating events.

Bill Sterett, the national seven-liter champion from Owensboro, Ky., drove his hydroplane Miss Crazy Thing to a third consecutive title-in-the Orange Bowl Regatta's Grand Prix in Miami. Sterett averaged a record 85.878 mph over the 8 3/4-mile course.

Ted Naftzger, 40, of Beverly Hills, Calif., took four sailfish on the last day to win the Masters Angling Tournament in Palm Beach, Fla. Naftzger, who had participated in two earlier Masters without scoring, had eight sailfish releases for a 605-point total.
