Bruce Katt, a 19-year-old sophomore southpaw, struck out 19 batters—a Southwest Conference record—in his debut for Texas A&M as the Aggies beat SMU 11-0. Katt's father, Ray, was a major league catcher for eight years, ending his career with St. Louis.

J. Wolcott Brown, 67, a bridesmaid the last three years and four times since 1960, finally graced the winner's circle at the 36th annual American Seniors Golf Association championship in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Brown topped Bob Loufek 2 and 1 in the finals.

Kent Merritt, whose football speed earned All-America honors and a scholarship to Virginia, clocked 9.4 in the 100-yard dash for Lane High in Charlottesville, Va. The time, fastest in Southern scholastic ranks, is three-tenths better than the state record.

Gayle Gilliland, who owns a 153 average in her Lansing, Mich. women's bowling league, nearly canceled on a recent night when 17 inches of snow blanketed the city. Undaunted, she rolled 244-233-231 for a 708, highest series ever by a Lansing woman.

Billy Martin, 13, won 11 straight tennis tournaments last year and found himself atop the USLTA's 14-year-old division. Not quite satisfied, the River Forest, Ill. lad entered the 16s at New York's Easter Bowl Junior Indoor and lost only in the finals.

H. Turney Mcknight Jr., a Baltimore lawyer, romped to four consecutive victories, including the Midlands Cup at Atlanta, Ga., in spring steeplechase meets. He eased I Dreyfus over timber fences in two and rode I Siberian Plunder, a filly, in the others.
