Recently, after watching movies of Turner's Eagle in action, a guest who professed to know nothing about sailing asked, "Have you ever won the America's Cup?" "You do not win the America's Cup," Turner replied. "You defend it." After a pause he added, "I have never defended it, but it is a lovely idea."
