As an expansion team, the Royals wanted to be wanted and Fort Myers would take anybody who would promise to come. It has been a felicitous union. Booster clubs in the two cities exchange visits, and everybody in town professes to love the Royals, who are invariably characterized as a "class organization." Since the Gulf Coast has always attracted Midwesterners, there is the additional hope that many people from the Kansas City area will come to live in Fort Myers, or retire there, or at least invest there.
