Cathana Butler, catcher on the Yakima (Wash.) Stealers women's fastpitch Softball team, was voted most valuable player in the Vancouver, B.C. Invitational. Cathana batted .802, hit two homers, back-to-back triples and two doubles, and drove in nine runs.

Betty Mullen Brey of Rockville, Md. set seven national records for women between 40 and 44 at the AAU Masters swimming championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Brey, a 1956 U.S. Olympian, has been an All-America age-group swimmer for two years.

Percy Talkington, 14, of New Martinsville, W. Va., became the U.S. Junior Trap Shooting champion at the Grand American shoot held in Vandalia, Ohio, hitting 124 of 125 targets in a shoot-off after he and seven others tied with scores of 99 out of 100.

Leigh Dunker from Warner, S. Dak. won his 24th state horseshoe pitching title with a high-game ringer percentage of 79.4. Dunker, who took his first championship in 1934, holds the state records for qualifying (84) and high-game ringer (87) percentages.

Al Clark, a senior at Hiawatha High in Kirkland, Ill., completed 18 of 22 passes for 330 yards and seven touchdowns in his team's 47-6 victory over Wheaton Christian. Playing middle linebacker on defense, he intercepted two passes and had seven tackles.
