Carla Sue, 11, whose father, Cart, was a running back with Oakland, New England and Chicago in nine seasons, put the six-pound shot 41'5" at the Girls National Age Group meet in Los Angeles to establish a record in the 10-to-11 age group.

BRYAN COLEMAN
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS
Bryan, a 12-year-old first baseman, averaged .645 (including a league-leading .713 this season), hit 14 home runs and had 125 RBIs in leading the Braves of the Dixie Youth League to a three-year record of 47-12, including two championships.

CHARLIE BAUMANN
MONROE, WIS.
Charlie, 14, became the youngest champion in the junior division (17 and under) at the National Left-Handed Golfers Amateur tournament. He shot a total of 331 at Madison, Wis., one shot better than Scott Burkman of Cleveland, Tenn.

DEBBIE BOWMAN
BETHESDA, MD.
Debbie, now 16, competing in the Big and Little Summer Doubles League, established a National Youth Duckpin Association record for boys and girls (13 to 15 years old) with a 241 game, which included seven strikes, five of them in a row.

SAN FRANCISCO
Jay, 17, a freshman at City College of San Francisco, defeated Alan Federal of Cincinnati in the final match to win the U.S. Junior Open Chess Championship in East Lansing, Mich. He had seven wins and one draw in a five-day competition.

HEATHER HAIRSTON
LOVELAND, OHIO
Heather, 14, seeded 14th in a field of 128, upset second-seeded Amy Holton of Kettering, Ohio in the semifinals, then defeated sixth-seeded Janet Lagasse of Malibu, Calif. 6-2, 7-5 to win the National Girls 14 tennis title in Greensboro, N.C.
